Peace, Lo♥e and Aliens

I was in my couch spending my meticulously planned weekend munching on some chicken I had made and watching few movies that I had downloaded when it struck me, why is it that aliens are always projected as dumb mindless creatures who want to annex our Planet Earth . Yeah, I know there have been quite a few movies which tried to cleanse this blot on their character sketch which, needless to say, has been plotted by Hollywood script writers, diligently, as if tarnishing the aliens' image was their only goal!

Given a chance, I would rather show these aliens as we-mind-our-own-business-and-don't-give-a-damn-about-your-planet creatures or as a smart/intelligent or both or as a supremely advanced race.Like the Automatic Robotic Organisms aka Autobots from the Transformers,I just loved the way Ironhide complains,"Humans are a primitive and violent race". But again there were the Decepticons who wanted this planet.Shyamalan tried something in Signs but Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix had already been fed on the anything-extraterrestrial-is-lethal-and-wants-our-planet porridge and loads of it.So, they were too blind to see what that small girl notices quite matter-of-factly.Why couldn't the aliens be some art-loving beautiful organisms whose definitions of world and peaceful coexistence are way too evolved than our one-eye-blind approach to it.They could probably harness our satellite signals and be watching our television series and sitcoms and jibing at things that make us laugh. They could be, for all we know, following our news and political stories and wondering as to what drives humans against fellow beings or what is it that could probably motivate us to gradually kill our own planet.WE don't need anyone from outside earth to wipe us all off, we are on the path of doing it ourselves;suicidal!

Since the time man had started 'developing' or getting 'civilized' , he has been mercilessly raping the very source of his existence, his home.We talk of humanity but the fact remains that we tend to use this "human" word way too liberally, mean it or not!All of us together are no better than that conceited school boy who thinks he is the best and goes about bullying others and calling names.May be, those out there feel the same about us, as we do of that vain kid!It is time we start working towards the common goal of giving our children something beautiful, the world as we see it today and not like that alien invaded Earth in 2150A.D they show in a typical Hollywood flick. It is time we start working together and not against each other!Love Thy Planet!

not just a four letter word!

Ever since we were at the doors of adolescence we've kept falling in love. For some it started early with the class teacher, for a few others with the one pretty girl in the class and this would continue till almost half of our lives or to a few hours before we'd die. While some would have the cheek to express, others chicken out, but what stays consistent is that fact that our heart never gives in on this.No matter how much a person takes refuge in the I-will-never-fall-in-love-again rhetoric, he does fall for another girl.
Almost everyone under the sun would have written or said something about this 'love' concept and would have his/her own ideology regarding the same;people have written reams on this, painted miles, done a zillion things you would not even dream of.So,I would not want to go into the details of it.Rather what amazes me is the way it grows and how people adopt to its ways.
As kids or teenagers we were into heavy mush and cheese, flowers, chocolates and excitement over Valentines Day;dream dates, surprise gifts, stolen kisses, slurpy smses, long drives and lengthy phone calls. Our take on love was a mighty shift from what it might be now.We lived on expectations then, loads of it.Waiting post college, giving a call as soon as you are free, spending the weekends together, preferring your partner over your friends, come what may!
As time passes by we look for maturity in thoughts and relationships, look out for partners who might understand that even though you do not give that person a call or return it within that stipulated time-frame you love that person.Even though you could not take your partner out on a weekend because you had a prior appointment with your colleagues;even if you went out for a party without your partner for once;even if you do not think the way she does or do not have a similar take on things and life as that person, you can still be in love.
In this hustle we usually tend to ignore how big life is and that before you met him/her you grew up in a different society, sometimes different culture as well;friends were different and so were the people around. So the way you think or act or even react to anything might not comply with what your partner has on mind or as she would ideally do.Your partner's take on a few things might be poles apart from yours. But that does not imply that you would not or need not be together. What you are is what makes You and that is and will be your identity,so changing yourself to adopt,so much so that you lose yourself would be uncalled for.
So,I believe that loving your partner is not just about snuggling up while watching a supremely romantic flick or kissing them good night every night or not even just going out for those romantic dinners,it is also about having these, for a few of these are quintessential to telling that special someone how important she is,but not having just these alone. It is more about space and understanding.Understanding the dynamics of beautiful symbiotic romance and still loving the other person like crazy. But everyone to his/her own, please!

Love Aaj Kal-Dissection

LAK is about Jai(Saif) who is like any other guy you meet, chilled out, anti-commitment,you IM him Love and he would reply with a suprised smiley.Jai ,as in any other lovestory, meets a girl Meera.Meera Pundit(Deepika) is again the usual girl who her own set of ideals and is pretty cool about this love stuff herself. The story is about how these people who seem all so 'practical' fall for each other. All along Imtiaz tried explaining the audience that no matter how casual you are about relationships and people, there would be this one person you would fall in love with. This one person understands you and knows you inside out and is your 'soulmate'.
Imtiaz starts with his trademark guy meets gal, they are not quite keen(read sure) about each other but eventually destiny has it that they meet.'Socha na tha' started similar;but again it doesnot leave you with a deja vu as many critics put it; neither do I see the director being overtly cautious. It is plain his-own-style.Romance, we understand is his forte, his real test now would be coming out of his comfort mush zone.
Story:
The story quite interestingly starts with the lead pair calling their relationship quits!Talking always about being 'practical' and how long distance relationships don't take off;given the fact that Meera had to fly to India for work. Both wanted to grow professionally and so they part ways but they decide on not to sob their way out of this but celebrate with a party,a 'break-up party'.It was at the end of this party that Veer Singh(Rishi Kapoor),a cafe owner bumps into him, telling Jai how he resembled him in is youth.
Veer Singh had dated a beautiful young punjabi girl Harleen(Giselle Montero) who lived in Delhi, when he was young(played by Saif with a turban).Harleen and family relocated to Calcutta, but Veer Singh is so smitten by this girl that he travels to Calcutta just to catch a glimpse of her.The next time they meet is at a wedding in Delhi, when she tells Veer that she is getting engaged the day after and has no say in this.He eventually wins her home, despite opposition from her family.
Screenplay and good slick Editing are the stars of the film. The movie darts smoothly between Veer Singh's past and Jai's present drawing parallels between eveverything in their lives.
Saif plays Jai,he has done similar roles in Salaam Namaste and Hum Tum before, so pulls it off pretty effortlessly. This might go down as one of the better performances by Deepika, who I felt showed us that she too can act, for the first time esp. the last scene where she proved that she can cry.She has miles to go in terms of acting still and is wooden at times, particularly. the dance sequences.Deepika again has usually been potrayed in roles like these, which are by and large similar to how she is in real life aswell. Her character and 'practical' approach to life remind you of Bachna Ae Haseeno.
Rip Masand:
"The screenplay, for one, is far from foolproof."
I feel it was one of the best narrations of 2009.For example, one of the last scenes in which the love-lost Jai finally goes to Meera. The shots move quickly between Veer Singh going to get Harleen and Jai going to Meera's house. The parallelism has been smoothly crafted.

"The incident that drives Jai to realise where his heart lies is ridiculous"
It is funny how Masand expects everything to be senselessly scientic. This is how life is and this also precisely the charater that Jai and Meera play. They have no idea that he/she is the one for each other. And that is also what Meera tells Rahul Khanna,"Jai does not know this yet.And if he does anytime,he will come back to me". The one good thing that I observed in this is how she doesnot forecast that Jai 'will be back' .Quite unlike "Woh zaroor ayega, mera dil kehta hai"or "Agar mera pyaar sachcha hai toh woh zaroor ayega" cliches.

"The young Veer and Harleen track is wrapped up with a convenient culmination that isn't even dramatic enough to justify how much time has been spent establishing these characters."
What more does anyone want?Any more frames into their story and people might have started getting bored, given the fact that Veer is not the lead protagonist.

" Deepika Padukone lacks the maturity or the skill to make up for the lapses in the writing and to construct a credible character out of Meera. "
I could not figure out any lapses as such but Deepika did a commendable job as discussed before.

Verdict:
The film is a fitting next to the director's previous "Socha Na Tha" and "Jab We Met" and if we talk about the storyline and the depth,I personally found it to be tad better than JWM.You can watch it anytime with anyone.

I'd give it a 4 out of 5.

Baby!Don't die on me!

How is anyone supposed to feel after he lost someone whom he loved the most!?!She gave him company, stayed through the best and the worst of times, played some good music whenever he was depressed, called up some close friends whenever he was down, tagged along wherever he went and did world of other things just to keep him happy. The symbiotic relationship they shared bewildered a few, irked others, remaining ignored! And one day she died on him!The doc looked at her, examined for a while and declared her : brought dead, the world around him came crashing down.Devastated! My mobile,my companion for the past few years...she's no more!can there be anything worse than this?It was my music player, blog interface, media connect, camera she was everything! It was a friend, memoir, scribblepad EVERYTHING!!!How can anything fill this void?I feel so handicapped,as if some part of my body had been amptuated. Now,the mobile service center guy(doc) is my only hope.I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and praying for the best, some miracle,a bolt of lightning, a clap of thunder, something!
Please come back to me!Am so lonely without you baby!

Love Aaj Kal

These days, whenever I see an unmarried couple, hand in hand/back from a movie/riding on a bike/lost in each others eyes at a coffee shop/waiting for her in the cellar of her apartment complex for 'only 5 mins' for the past half hour/following her cluelessly in a mall while she's busy pickin' up atleast a dozen black tops all of which look strikingly similar before deciding to go for another 'style' or because someone had told her that the colour of the thin line at the bottom right hand corner of the tee didn't match her personality or worse yet...didn't look good on her/waiting for ages outside the trail room just to say that she looks fab in the crappy outfit she chose/a guy pleading in front of his girlfriend coz he had her waiting for 5 mins/a guy running to every icecream vendor to check if he still has that flavour of icecream that his girlfriend ordered for at well past midnight/the guy flying down to his girl's city just to watch some mushy movie/rent a flat near to hers...I pity 'em..."Sonner or later they'll know what they are into!",I tell myself.
P.S.For those of you who tripped over this one thinking that it was the preview of the upcoming Saif starrer..sorry
